dashboard display..
i have got to design a dashboard dislay unit to show the temp etc. of the cabin of a car.. anyone got any good ideas for it ??
it is to be fitted in a range of cars as OE, so my first thought was to make it single DIN size to make it as universal as possible (by converting double DIN to single), or to make it so that it could fit in a variety of different vehicles using individual pods..
any ideas for the fitment, or what other things it could display would be appreciated..
cheers, alex..

The Old Sierra's used to have quite a nice little idea. A plan view of the car, temp "on the roof" and the doors showed if they were open by going red etc, also applied to the boot and bonnet. Could put other things on there like if fog lights are on (pref with a warning "ping" every ten seconds until they are turned off). My Scoob came with a gizmo where the dash odment shelf should go. Some OEM thing, has external temp, Air Pressure, direction and little flashing bars to tell you if you are moving (like I couldn't work that out for myself!). Largely a waster of time to be honest.

Depends how detailed you want to get with these things. Wheels could turn red if the ABS is playing up. Engine area goes red if there is an engine fault, if you go for active matrix colour LCD you could display the appropriate fault icon there.

Not sure what feedback is of use to the driver for elements inside the car, you can see most of it. There is the usual stuff we have covered like doors being open etc, possibly to include sun-roof or windows to ensure the car is secure before leaving it. Most other things you can see from the drivers seat, but a few suggestions:
1) Heated seats on
2) Heated rear / front window on
3) Temp setting for env control
4) Where the air flow is going, auto, windscreen, face, feet etc
5) Air con on or eco
7) Air bag problem
8) Seat belts not fastened
9) Leaking rear light cluster (Scoob option )
10) Speed
11) Heading, N,S,E,W or gps location

Ahhh - well humidity may be useful to show on it as well then!
Have a look in a 206 GTi, they come with climate control and the layour for that is rather nice and easy to read.
