So, in the light of the 5 bests songs thread, which I haven't replied to yet cos I can't decide ...

What are your 5 best bands...this one I know:

1 The Chameleons
2 The Smiths
3 The Clash
4 Pink Floyd
5 U2

which shows my age...so come on, what are yours...

I do love starting these things.

But now that i am being asked for the 5 best band, its very difficult..

First up: REM, then:

Pink Floyd
Evernesance (or however its spelled)

Who TF are the chameleons?

I would probably include:

The Band
The Clash
Cream (Maybe?)

in the main, i find that solo artists tend to be more enduring. one of the best live band performances i have seen was, bizarrely, a canadian band called the tragically hip who i saw at king tut's wah wah hut in glasgow.

Well he's an individual artist, but I don't think he plays all the instruments himself For that reason, I think he should be counted. Should be based on their contribution to music rather than simple numbers IMHO
