strange goings on on ebay
what do you think of this:
i was recently bidding on an item on ebay, but lost the auction - fair enough. as luck would have it, a week later another of these items (a bit of high end hifi) came up from a different ebayer, and i bought it for slightly less than my maximum bid in the earlier auction.
today i was browsing, and i see *another* of these units on ebay. this is a little strange as there things were not made by the truckload, and it took me a long time to find one. i looked at the auction and it is exactly the same as the one i didn't win, and the seller is the same. the seller states that the item is/was part his own hifi set up, so why would he have two? fair enough - he maybe got messed about by the person who won the last auction, but i checked out who won the previous auction, and the alleged seller had posted them positive feedback. could be he just came by another unit i suppose, but i was wondering if people commonly create multiple users to bid against real buyers in the hope of pushing up the final price? i didn't place my bid at the last minute, as i wasn't around at that time.

Perhaps he/she had Bi (or even tri) amped and is now selling the amps on separately? Not that uncommon with high end hi-fi to run separate power amps for the tweeters and woofers, or even a set up of 4 monoblocks. Still a bit strange to sell them in multiple lots.
As to why would someone want to buy a single monoblock - how about to run the centre speaker in a surround set-up when the other two front speakers already have their own monoblocks?
Neither are the most likely solutions, but both are possible, as is Damian's suggestion. An honest seller would be prepared to tell you if either was the case.
I'd think more likely would be that it is someone who has come across a "job lot" of them and is selling them off one at a time pretending to be joe public. I stumbled across someone in West London doing that exact trick with a high end (£2.8k list) home keyboard. I didn't bid on it.

it wasn't a monoblock - doh
i have emailed the seller. just checked my mail box and they have replied with a reasonable answer, explaining that the first he took in px and the second was his own unit.
must be getting paranoid....
