had a heated discussion with my dad this weekend about world politics and it moved on to the bible code - my dad firmly believes the world (according to the BC) is going to end in 2006 through some sort of 'big' event.
what surprised me, is that he came up with some rational arguments for the BC case.
I don't actually know anything about this bible code stuff - does anyone else know about it/believe it?

There is a book available all about this, I have a copy but haven't got round to reading past the first chapter. Its pretty spooky stuff if you believe it! Not sure I am a believer though!
Maybe I should finish the book

If he really does believe it, ask him if he will give me his house, car, pension, all his posessions(sp?) etc. in 2006. I'm serious!
After all, if the world really is gonna end, then it's gonna make no difference to him is it!
The world was supposed to end thousands of times in the past according to various fanatics and it never did. Why should this 'bible code' be any different.

The flaw in Michael Drosnin's whole plan is this. He challenged anyone to find coded messages in Moby Dick, and if they did, he would retract his advocacy of Bible Code stuff.
So a US scientist did just that, and using the same PC program used to find the Bible Code, found "coded" messages in Moby Dick which predicted Diana's death, JFK's assassination and more (it was all in a recent BBC2 Horizon programme).
Edited to add this link
Basically, if you look hard enough in ANY book you'll find patterns of letters which form messages.

Can't believe anyone gives heed to this bullsh*t. Still I guess the world needs its share of idiots.

some compelling against evidence!
I don't think I can be ar$ed to argue with my dad though. He's a stereotypical engineer and sees the world in a very clear engineering light, eg; "Doctors are just engineers working on humans - they're fallable too" or "Can you leave the remote control here please. it's the best place for it so everyone can get to it.".
