Rubbish - course it works without the phone line. Having it connected to the phone line is just a term & condition of getting a cheaper subscription.

You only REALLY need it connected to the phone line if you want to use interactive services like ordering movies, or playing games on it etc.

Mine has NEVER been connected to the phone line, even though they claim it should be, and Sky never complained...if they do, just say you are decorating and it is temporarily out of reach of the phone socket.

Hello

Why wont it work without the phone line?

That's what they said about my original Sky Box and it's up in the loft connected to a distributed system with no phone line in sight.....

You can even order Box Office movies etc and receive them without the phoneline connected.

Once the phoneline is re-connected then it will bill you.

It will let you run up a bill of £250 and if the phoneline isn't reconnected then it won't let you order anymore

LOL, I may try that..

my sky system has been in for 3 years and not once has the phone been connected, the sky installation engineer agreed that there was no reason for it and most people just unplugged it when he left..

Mine has been unplugged since I relocated it a year ago. No problems at all, but then I don't use Box Office

Sky do test to see if the Phone line is connected. If your unlucky and they test your box you will receive a warning letter.

If they test a second time and no phone line is connected they may make you pay the difference between a direct purchase and a reduced price purchase of your equipment.

After 12 months you can do as you like.

I never had a problem with my old digibox but I have had a warning with Sky+

As I understand with Sky + the internal software is constantly being upgraded and it uses the phone line for downloads. It will work with the line but you may miss out on updates.

Thanks for the replies, the old digibox was never connected to the phone, and the engineer would not install the + box unless I connected it. The thing is there is not a phone socket anywere near the tv.

the battery trick makes the digibox think it's connected to the phone line (will find out which wires you need to connect, it's a PP3 battery BTW) movies you order off box office are stored on your box and sent to sky every so often.

But if you want to reconnect to phone line at a later date, for a download or whatever, you need to have the box unplugged from the mains for 24hrs to wipe the memory.

There are bound to be people who say this doesnt work, but I've seen it in action and it does work.

This worked with old standard digibox but I'm note sure about a sky+ box...
