My dad has a medium small industrial estate in Cheshire that he is renovating at the moment. He want's to install about 8-10 CCTV Cameras which will record images to a computer and also give him the option of viewing images live from a remote location via the internet.
I've had a brief browse on the interweb but only seem to find ebay type mini spy cameras etc... pah no use. We will need the proper heavy duty cameras that can stand tough weather etc and infrared also I think.
Well... not anything I know much about??? Can anyone give me a starter?

There are several pci cards you can use most of them are 4 channel.Mines a pico off ebay and prices vary from £25 - £100.
It comes with all the software and you can host it omn the net.
A word of warning the cheaper 1/4" ccd auto-iris cameras you can buy will allow really low lux levels (0.025) and have infra red led lighting (18 off).Replacement lenses are available from Maplins (£5 - £10) However they tend to suffer from unreliable iris calibration and the picture goes dark (to cure this you need to either turn power supply to camera off and on or cover the lens for a minute).I have changed the 12v supply to a 13.2v burglar alarm supply which has made the problem better but IMHO I would go for 1/3"ccd / 24v pro cameras if you can afford it.I wouls steer clear from the "sees 60ft or sees 90ft cameras as I bought one from spycameraforless in usa and it WASNT PAL as per their advert and the infra red lighting failed after 3 days, I sent it back and got a "full refund" as per their agreement alas they did not mention a 20% re shelving fee or the £16 it cost me to return it.

Infra reds another subject in my installation I use 12v 90 IR led illuminators which do the job satisfactorily for MY installation ( Cars and garage/shed at a distance of 30ft) They are self operating via a photocell / relay thats built in but for a commercial install I would reccoment Dennard or Pelco units.
