Im about to buy a micromark cctv camera, you know one of those cheapies from Argos, think its £30.
Will it work ok at night??
We have streetlights at either side of the driveway so it wont be pitch black.
We are going to aim it at my G/friends car that keeps getting vandalised on our driveway, and press record on the video before we go to bed to catch the criminal in the act.

We think we know who it is(99%)(also see TMobile crank calltopic) and we want the footage to prove it was them

If anyone has one of those cameras, will it be ok if i mount it in the window facing the car?

Thanks

Duncan

I will check the make. ( think the one I have is 'View-cam' ) I get a decent pic off mine. You could certainly make out a face the one I have also records sound.
B+W will prob give you a better pic
what LUX does this work at?

Hi mate,
cheers for the reply.I thought the B+W one would work best at night.
Sorry but i dont know what LUX is???
i just saw it in the Argos catalgue and thought for £30 it might be worth it.We know who's doing this to her car and this might just be the evidence we need

Thanks

0 LUX means it works in complete darkness, 1 not so good 2 bit worse and so on

the one I have is quite small and discreet so is mounted within porch type area. Dont know how it would react behind the glass with the reflection of the street lighting ????

@ £30 it is worth a shot. Check with the cops as to the use of this as evidence though?

I think you need a time and date generator to use it as evidence in court BUT whatever you do have will be better than nothing. I use a color micromark camera during the day and a b/w at night but don't point them at the street lights (or the sun or bright reflections) as it floods the picture and you can't make anything out.
8 hours on long play (record) - is that what youre thinking
good luck !!
you can get a micromark one that has built in PIR and sounds a buzzer when someone gets within 2 metres of the camera, no good if your car is some distance away.

IMHO Micromark cameras are pants.

If you want a decent camera, try RF Concepts - they're not that much more expensive, but considerably better.

Duncan - I tend to find CPC quite good/cheap for this kind of thing - they are usually capable of giving advice too and not too far from you (Preston - just up by asda)

Oh but just had another thought - you could buy it from argos, catch the bugger and take it back within the 16 day money back guarantee Bargain!

Wink

MicroMark do a version that triggers your video to 'record'....

Costs around £100 from B&Q!

Cheers guys,some helpful info

In the end i bought the cheapie from Argos,To be honest it aint that bad.

At the moment its mounted in a upstairs window looking down on the car,you do get a bit of glare from the window but the car is very visable

I'll probably mount it outside so the picture is a bit clearer in the crimbo holidays.

Thanks once again for the help
