Euro transfer to Belgium bank account
#1
Does anyone know anything about this?
http://www.euro.gov.uk/crossborder.asp
As I read it, I should not be charged ANYTHING for transferring some Euros over to someone in Belgium. Well, First Direct, normally superb, want to charge me £20 for a 110 Euro transfer. I told them it was disgusting and said goodbye.
Anybody who know about this or has had any experience with this, please post your thoughts!
Cheers,
Mossman

Most banks will charge a handling fee, especially if they're acting as an intermediary. EUR 20 seems to be the going rate, £20 is a bit toppy but not unfeasible. You'll be very lucky if you can find any bank to do this free for you. Especially since it's only EUR 110, an amount many banks unfortunately see merely as an inconvenience.

Telboy I have no idea but found out about it last week, the IBAN number is the International Bank Number for your bank and the BIC/Swift number is a personal number for you, apparently there is an agreement within the EU that you can use these numbers to transfer money within the EU for a standard charge of 35 or 38c not sure which, you will need to speak to your bank to get the full info.
And how did you know it was me that posted it

I know everything mate!
Cheers for that, i'll look into it. That would save a lot of people a lot of money, if everybody could use the system you've described.

Went through the same process to pay for next years skiing. Barclays have two fee structures for paying funds, one is about £20 the other is £30 plus foreign charges.
I eventually went for an International Money Order. Cost me £8.
