Just been revamping my website front page, and wanted opinions etc. I personally like the simple clean look etc
Thanks in advance

Recommend you use a proper editing tool and not microsoft Word! It makes immensely heavy code with a host of unecessary tags.
I am assuming that there is just one page to the site? If this is the case then yes, it looks nice and pretty. Hopefully it will be followed up with a super design and some quality content.

Hopefully that'll be the way things will go, but unfortuneatll i only have experience with word etc, which tools should i be using Rich?
I need an easy to use editor (much like word is) but like you say i need one that doesn't use such heavy coding.
Thanks
Iain

Iain,
Much as I hate myself for saying it - Dreamweaver is a good tool for starting out with. EditPad is also a great tool (possibly free?)
If you look at the source code to your page you will see that there is a whole bunch of XML style stuff at the begining of the doument, this is at best only ever used by ms word! You will also see that all of your content is wrapped up like this:
<p class=MsoNormal align=center style='text-align:center'><span
style='font-size:9.0pt;font-family:Arial;mso-fareast-font-family:Arial'><![if !supportEmptyParas]> <![endif]><o: p></o: p></span></p>
That is just MS Word putting in a space whereas you could do this by typing:
& nbsp; (without the space)
See what I mean about word bloating the document with cr@pola?
There are some good books out there for starting out with HTML, the idiots guides are good no matter what anybody else here says as are the instant HTML books by WROX press (dark red covers).
Hope this helps!
Rich
Edited cos SN is rendering code!

OK,
Lost the underlining on the 'mail to' and lost the webmaster bit as well.
Just trying some different fonts for the 'power & performance' bit, but i do quite like it - no harm in trying i suppose

As SJ_Skyline says getting a decent book is the way forward, one on HTML and possibly one on dreamweaver. Again I think the idiots guides arent a bad place to start but the wrox books are aimed at the fairly technical.

Don't like black backgrounds. If you really want the text on black can it all be in a box with a simple border and have a white main page background.
Too many different fonts and probably too many colours...
Good luck with the site!

IMO the
E-mail us with your requirements at sales@race-tek.co.uk
should be completly clicky rather than just the email address being clicky. Just because I see that as one 'box' to click on but at the mo I have to go to the right of the 'word box' to get a clicky.
The webpage is symetrical so IMO keep it that way.

The image is dead, looks like you just dumped the old code into dreamweaver. I think there is a tool in there somewhere entitled "clean MS Word document"??
Probably best to start from scrath IMHO so you don't pull in att the cr@pola from word!

Yes it's not brilliant, yes it uses inline styles, yes I know there is no meta information in there and yes I know it doesn't need the div!
Good place to start from though mate

Iain, I'm gonna have to hand you over to someone that actually uses dreamweaver - I use Visual Studio which is definately no good for you!
I would guess click on file - new - project or something like that!
Rich
p.s. best of luck!
