Most live happily ever after. I think.

S3x scene with Frodo and Gandalf.

Mourdor becomes a trendy wine bar.

Sauron becomes a superstar DJ and plays regular sets in Bag End after bagging off with the evil woman elf.

Smegel gets a job at a scooby specialist and does dodgy oil servicing.

ROFL

big fight lots of ppl die,

Frodo, sam and smeagle take the secret back route into mordor, smeagle has offered to help frodo as he took of the magic rope from his ankle that the elves gave him (major part of story brushed over in film)

smeagle betrays the hobbits to a nasty spider that poisons frodo and sam becomes the ring bearer

they get to the firey pit, big fight blah blah sauron gets his ring as he puts it on smeagle jumps at him bitting his finger off and smeagle the ring and sauron plunge into the "liquid hot magma"!

the few left alive live happily ever after apart from Frodo who is taumented for the rest of his days by what has happened to him

or did i dream all this?

Thumbs down

Do they focus on the after end bit where the hobbits return to Bag End and sort that out?
Oh no of course they wouldn't, as if the storyline has to be stuck to.

So much is missed in the first two films, lots of important stuff. Why bother including imprtant bits in the third FFS? I am surprised they bothered basing it on LOTR, they may as well have just written another book. I won't start though, I shall leave my soapbox in the corner.

Chelle.

(Avid LOTR reader )

Chelle

It's a FILM in no way is it going to be able to match the book page by page, what it does do though is tell the story in a well thought out way which doesn't remove to much from books. It also gets people interested who may of thought 1100 pages i can't be bothered with that, then see the films and decide to read the books.

Si

Edit coz of unbelievably typing

Simmarilion (sp?) basically the bible of middle earth, but to cut it short biblo goes over the seas with the elves to live out his days, frodo follows after then sam after that as they were all ring bearers if only briefly.

I understand that it is never going to follow the book, but they have changed needless things and omitted some scenes that really should have been included.

The flight to the ford FFS, that was completely re-written!!!!!

A new range of books came out with styling from the film, just more money coming in for the relevant people. IT makes money, there's nothing more to it. I just don't like to see something as great as LOTR hauled over the shallow coals of money grabbers.

Chelle things need to make money otherwise they don't get made (excluding a few recent films ) i for one have been amazed at how well it has been done and take my hat off to fran walsh and peter jackson, also can't find fault in any of the actor but thats my opinion

Cool

Looking at it solely as a film, it is stunning and certainly rakes in the cash.

Unfortunately I happen to have read the book several times and am a big fan of Tolkein's writing.

The actors are fairly close to how I imagined them and Middle Earth is definitely brought to life!

FWIW, I'm a fan of the books and think the film is better than I could possibly have hoped.

Chelle, let it go... Can u imagine how they could make a better film, 'cos I can't

You don't have time to read the book, but you can't wait 6 months. The book is easy to read in 6 months, unless your reading at the level where you'd consider "The Cat in the Hat" challenging

Regarding Peter Jackson changing the plot - It was commercially necessary as a sacrafice to the makers of toys/lunch boxes/breakfast cereals. I hate the alterations (specifically the missing 17 years in the Shire, and the complete omission of Glorfindel, and in film 2 the whole "Aragorn falls off a cliff" bit - why?), but I understand why they were made.

Finally, I think Hans Zimmer would have written a better score than Howard Shore did. Not bad music, but not as good as it could have been.

fwiw, scouring of the shire is NOT in ROTK. Which is a shame.

I did actually sit down and read the three books, and it was a pretty good story.

Am intruiged to see how PJ pans out the final chapter.
