Without using a calculator or pen and paper add up

one thousand + forty + one thousand + thirty + one thousand + twenty + one thousand plus ten

What do you get?

Does anyone know anymore of these

I know it's 4100, but if you add it the way it's meant it's 5000

fair play, I could image the brain would interpret it differently if "heard" , as opposed to "read" - reading - you can read a couple of times - hearing you are more on the spot & prone to the bum answer.

The hypotenuse of the red and green triangles do not line up - they are at slightly different angles which the naked eye cannot easilly detect. Therefore the whole shape is NOT a triangle.
The 'error' accounts for the missing space.

The two hypotenuse are actually convex and concave curves.

I drew this to scale on a 1cm x 1cm grid.

It is not curved hypotenuse that cause it - all these shapes are drawn straight - the two hypotenuse of the green & red triangles not not exactly follow the hypotenuse of the true 13x5 blue triangle.

Fast Bloke "how do you get 5000?"

Your brain thinks 4090 + 10 = 5000 not 4100. Something to do with it getting flumuxed by the noughts.

Took me quite a few go's before I realised how incredibly obvious that one is. Won't spoil it for everyone yet, as it had me going for a minute or two.

Sorry, fast bloke, but you're wrong. They're straight lines, just not at the same angle.

As for the crystal ball thing...

if you choose

10 your shape will be answer 9 (10 - 1)
11 your shape will be answer 9 (11 - 2)
12 your shape will be answer 9 (12 - 3)
20 to 29 answer will be 18
30 to 39 answer will be 27
40 to 49 answer will be 36
50 to 59 answer will be 45
60 to 69 (fnarr fnarr) answer will be 54
70 to 79 answer will be 63
80 to 89 answer will be 72
90 to 99 answer will be 81

if you look at number 9, 18, 27 etc they are the same shape, although shape changes every time
