Hello
It should be in the terms and conditions of your employment (or your contract).
If it's a disciplinary hearing then you are usually entitled to a work colleague or a Union representative.
I only know about my friends circumstances who had one of these....
You may also talk to the local CAB, who usually give pretty good advice.
Steve.

If its disciplinary you are also allowed to make phone calls, which may be private. So as soon as they say something that your not happy about say you need to consult someone regarding that, and make a call.
Ask that everything is written down by an independant party, and that all material parties sign then and there, and immediately get copies of the documentation.
Union reps are just like anyone else at work, some are good, some are ****ty.

scoobynet is always so topical.
I had a disciplinary hearing last week; thought about taking along an employment lawyer (don't know of one, no idea of cost), thought about taking a union rep (not a member of a union), thought about taking no-one.
In the end asked my wife to attend - she will be affected more than most and it lets the employer know there's more than just a salary at stake.
The process went very civilly (haven't seen the minutes yet) and I think several lines of dubious accusations stopped short 'cos my wife was present.
Next week, however, I'm joining the union.
all the best with your 'process'.

So I am told I may have EITHER a Union Rep OR a Work Colleague.
It this B.S ?
I am advised by a Union Rep and a Lawyer that I may have whoever I like as attendee on my behalf. Can anyone verify if this is the case / law ???

Had the first meeting already
Total waste of time
Not one of my comments was included in the minutes
It was basically a transcript of the HR point of view
MD called me in
"You are great, Company not same without you"
"Toe the Company Line"
"Choose Easy Life or Lifes going to be rough"
"There is NO Redundancy"

Jods,
Be careful, I had a similar thing recently and was told the same, eventualy walked out with a payment and straight into something else, despite being told NO REDUNDANCY. However I was the only one, all the rest did what they were told. If they are outsourcing or relocating then it depends on whats in the offer whether you're entitled to redundancy. The MD and HR guys will be on a bonus to make sure everyone goes's....so they have a vested interest.

According to the Fairness at Work Act 1999 you are entitled to union representation even if you are not a member of that union.
It allows the union to try and get members in the organisation. Eventually the organisation would have to recognise the union.
You are allowed to select any union to represent you.
