This is for my father in-laws caravan, he's got a space for a car stereo but its vertical, was just wondering if a cd player would work in this position? Cheers Taffyboyo.

Yes, it'll play the cd's, but the disc might get stuck inside as there's no retention mechanism on the tray.

Does it have to be fixed in place?

I am pretty sure I have seen cd players advertised as being usable vertically, but sorry I can't give you any more info' about it.

Anyone else tried to play a car cd player in a vertical position?
Thing is there is a old crappy radio/cassette player in the space but it is not very good, all the wiring is in place and it would fit in the space but would a cd player work in an upright position? any thoughts please, Taffyboyo.

Both of my cd changers are mounted vertically, have been for several years, no problems whatsoever so far

One is a Kenwood KC861 6 disc, the other is a Bluespot DJ St Louis 10 disc

Changers have adjustable springs, dunno about head units?

PS2 and portable CD play any way without adjustment. Wire it up to 12v and throw it about the room!!

Many car CD players are slot loaders, rather than tray loading. I would expect that these might work, but have never tried myself.
Alternatively go for a head unit with a separate CD changer
