Question

Just wondering if anyone can recommend a resort in Cyprus which is good for children (9 and 6 yrs). Have heard Protaras is suppose to be nice. Also, does anyone know of a website which has comments from holidaymakers, good or bad!. Found "Just Zante" a really helpful website last year, haven't found one for Cyprus yet!!!.

Thanks

Tracey

Protaras is a good choice, as it's all fairly new pupose built for holidaymakers. we usually go with golden sun, and have found them really good.
bear in mind its extremely hot and humid in the summer though. don't book anything without aircon.

Paphos is also nice, and a bit more cultural, if you like that sort of thing.

Another vote for Protaras - we stayed in the appartment/hotel complex (something-or-other village). Pity there were so many Germans and just a tiny beach but the complex itself was great and the kids had a fantastic time. Mind, it's a fair old drive from the airport over bumpy roads to get there.

Here's the URL for it - Malama Village

Just looking at some of the pics there makes me want to go back

Edited to add the web site.

Fantastic, absolutely bloody fantastic. We've been to protaras for 3 years out of the 6 we've been married. I'd wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone who wants a relaxing holiday with the option to do pretty much anything. Seems very good for kids too.

McDonalds moved in there a couple of years back, that's the only downside.

There's excellent restaurants all over, particularly the local tavernas a little out of the resort. Mezes are cheap and stupefyingly good at these places, and there'll be something for the kids too.

We've stayed at the Capo Bay hotel twice, and I wouldn't hesitate in recommending it. It's fantastic. We also have stayed at Crystal Springs, which is quite a way out of the main protaras strip. That was OK, but was a taxi ride back from Protaras - we walked there, but couldn't face the walk back most nights.

Try to get somewhere near fig tree bay if you can, as that's where the heart of the resort is.

You can also arrange a 2 day cruise to Egypt to see the pyramids and the museum of Cairo. This is mind-blowing, and will leave you wanting to go back for longer

Just book it .

Cheers,
nick.

Agreed Protaras is OK, we went there as didnt want to be full on in Ayia Napa, but spent most of our time on the bus to Napa.

Protoras is quiet, so good if you have kids. Ayia Napa is surprisingly nice for a young hotspot.

Good waterpark just outside Napa as well

Thumbs up

Poshbird,
We have been to Ayia Napa for the last 2 years and know a great hotel you could stay at, great for the kids has they get taken off your hands leaving you free to totally chill out, the hotel only takes brits so no germans nicking the sunbeds at 4am, not only that the hotel is far enough away from the noise but not to far if you wanna walk in in the evening
Cheers

We got the bus once, arrived at around 7-ish in the evening, found it full of what can only be described as "English gits" and got the next bus back after skilfully avoiding being mown down by turkeys on mopeds shouting "oioi" and blowing whistles.

It was fecking awful. My own little hell on earth

Napa is a beautiful place, particularly the church/monastry in the centre which is now IMHO being desecrated. God (and the inhabitants) only knows how they can put up with washing vomit from the walls on a regular basis... Tragic

Paphos is great. A nice balance between not too quiet and not too busy. Lots of good bars and restuarants but apart form watersports not a huge amount to do. I'd suggest getting a car and going up into the Trodos mountains which are fantastic.

We warned is gets really hot and its easy to get dehydrated or heatstroke.

Wouldn't hesitate to go back and wish I was there now.

went to zante with the gf a couple of years ago, nice place, not much to do apart from beach and beer.

be warned though the airport is so small it has 1 luggage belt for all incoming flights, and when you depart you will be queing up outside in the sun because the airport is so small, so take with you plenty of water and a change of tops.

Sorry just re-read your post doh!

the food is excellent, thers a great market and shopping center (with mcdonalds for the kids) theres a few cybercafes, for scoobynetting, great beach/cove, hire a jeep and go up some great mountains (hills, really)
we went all inclusive, and the beer and ice cream was tops.

You wont be disappointed, we went there for 3 weeks over Christmas and it was funny seeing most of the locals wearing coats, when on some days it was 23+ degrees Stayed in Limassol and the night time entertainment was brilliant. We were really made to feel welcome....

Found the change up on currency just as cheap if not cheaper there than at the airport (should of done it at the Post Office). Rental on cars works out dearer during peak season, but air con is a real plus. We had a Daewoo Matiz for literally peanuts.

We've always used the above web link for all feed back and most of the times its pretty much how you expect as long as some people haven't had a one off bad experience. We first used it for the Canaries and most people were right...Its full of red/grey rock LOL

Hope you guys have a great time and dont forget the sun tan lotion

Forgot to mention, dont do any of the excursions by boat as we heard a lot of people complaining of how bad it was and how the cabins were, lets say a bit filthy to say the least. We spent a bit more and done Egypt by plane for 2 days and that was great for the experience. Although it can be a little bit daunting for some as the locals are very persistent in selling you something...
