How can I tell if a Rolex is fake??
#2
I understood that a gen-yoo-wine Rolex has a "sweep" second hand, in other words it moves pretty smoothly round in tiny little ticks, several per second.
The second hand on a digitally-powered Rolex moves in one-second ticks.

One big thing is the weight, a real Rolex should be heavy, don't go on the second hand sweeping there are fakes out there that sweep now, the braclet should be solid links not folded or rolled metal, the backing (if intact) should have the serial number in the green sticker (if it's still there). The only other thing is take it to a dealer to get it checked out as it requires special tools to open the casing up and there should be a certificate with it.

Cheers all...
So far it has all the characteristics of a real one. It also had the green sticker on the back (before I picked it off) and that had a clear cover over it!!!
Funny how people generalise Rolex wearers with dodgy car salesman and the like!!!

I thought my late fathers rolex was a fake, until my mother took it to the local jewllers to get the strap repaired and they suggested sending it off for verification and valuation (and a strap).
Off it went to rolex, 2 weeks later, came back with a valuation of around 2 grand and a brand new strap.

An original Rolex should have an 'Officially Certified Chronometer' certificate with it. Some of the new fakes can mimic the sweeping second hand movement. The green sticker isn't much help cos most people take em off - I peeled mine off ages ago.
I've had mine for 12 years and can honestly say that a £3.50 digital watch keeps better time. Also getting them serviced by a Rolex technician is as wallet-straining as getting the Scoob serviced.

Does it really matter?? Does anybody look at the certificate when they ask you the time? To be honest who really cares if it's a real one or a fake one, and could these people tell the difference? Real ones are nice to have but if you've not got the complete kit (shoes, clothes etc, etc) people are just going to think it's fake anyway

Had mine 5 years and it never misses a beat! Best watch I've ever owned. Keeps great time, doesn't scratch easily and looks like new after all the scrapes I've put it through.
I would definately buy another if I lost this one.

I find that winding several layers of duck tape round my wrist achieves a similar effect at a fraction of the price. if you want to know the time, just ask a policeman

a fgake weighs half the weight of a real rolex a rolex will be a winding watch not a battery, dip it in water a real rolex there is no worry if wet there is a green cicle on the rear of the watch
and there is a small serial number on each side of the strap where it attaches to the watch, as for the ticking being a swept motion ive seen snide rolexs that tick the same as my real one, but a dead give away will be the price
