Just got given a Bel 550 radar/laser detector. Now if this thing is working - which I think it is - then I can't believe how many GATSOs are simply fake/not working.

Does anyone live near Amersham/Chesham/Chalfont, and has a detector? Can you confirm if the the cameras located at ..
Halfway up Station Road in Amersham
Near Chalfont&LAtimer Station
Waterside near Chesham
..are fake?

The Amersham GATSO is v. strange as I'm positive I've seen this go off (as a pedestrian walking towards the camera), and yet I get nothing on my detector!

Comments?
P.S. I have changed the country setup to be UK, so the correct radar bands should be detected.

Either that or the detector isn't detecting them all.

Nearly every GATSO in Leeds is switched off..... I know that my BEL works as it picks up Kwik Saves quite regularly as well as the odd GATSO in Wales when I was down there for the Network Q rally.

Thumbs up

The Station Road one in Amersham hasn't set my detector off before - They will still flash if they are a dummy, but your detector won't make a noise cos there's no radar in it.

Now this is the second time I've read that fake GATSOs will flash.

Why?

Surely they need RADAR to know when to flash, and if they do flash - why are they taking pics, and not actually prosecuting?

I have seen this one flash, and it doesn't show up on my detector - so it doesn't have RADAR - so how does it know when to flash?

Here's a quote from the instruction manual for my snooper 815is:-

"It should be noted that most cameras are NOT active or are in standby mode using "mimic" settings that just "flash" a speeding motorist. Under these circumstances the actual camera is not present and the radar unit operates at low power. Your detector will either not respond if the camera is not in use or will give a very weak signal at a very short range if the Gatso is in "mimic" mode".
Hope this helps!

Steve.

Question

So why don't the Police set all Gatsos into "Mimic mode" but with a camera as well.

That way radar detectors won't work and the cameras generate even more money in fines??
