I gave someone the wrong account number (one digit) to which they have transferred money via online banking. What are the chances of getting this back seeing as:
a) it was only a day ago
and
b) the name on the other account wont match with mine
Anyone else done this and if so what happened?
Simon.
P.S. Yes I know Im a numnut before the sarky comments start

MattN - thats what I thought but hes shown me his statement and the money has left his account. I guess it could get refunded but Ill get him to ring his bank.

Not sure that the name has to match. Due to a cockup by the Lloyds bank telephone operators I ended up with a standing order to 'East Hart District Council'
Seemed to work OK though.

I think you will find that the money may well find it's way back to his account, especially if he tells his bank of his error.
I once transferred a few quid to an account, but it had been closed - the money found it's way back.
Oh, and Si .... you numbnut!

GTF Tubs! Well if his bank cant check names then its their bl**dy fault. Just checked with mine and as it is a transfer from another bank there isnt anything mine can do.

If I'm not mistaken he has to stop the transfer - get him to do this asap. And I am pretty sure as well it will take 3 days and all the sort codes and numbers have to match. At your bank don't you have an assigned personal banking manager? Speak to them and get them to help you with this I am sure they can.

When you make an online transfer using internet banking, it clears the payers account there and then. If you bank with the same bank, eg barclays, then it would be in your account the same day. If not then 2 business days later.
However, the problem is not yours it is his. HE must explain the problem to HIS bank and get them to sort it out.
Should always double check and double check again your account details
