Hypnotherapy for arachnophobia
#1
I am being very serious (for once ) about this and do wish to cure my completely irrational and paranoid fear of spiders.
I am sure this will help my asthma greatly too!!!!
Where are the best ones, what prices am I looking at and how long do I have to go for?
Thanks in advance.

Good idea
Best practioner I've heard of is
Dr S Webb
Tarantula Lane
Crawley
He has a 3 phase cure.
First he tries the hypnotherapy
Second he gives you a hammer to hit them with
Third He gives you a packet of lockets so your throat is'nt sore from screaming.
My sister who is over 40 still has a phobia about spiders, and yes I must sadly admit that when I go to visit her I do tend to have captured about 6 of the little beggars that i let loose in her house before I go.
She's still never cottoned on.
I'm a sad git

Michelle - are you really serious about having a genuine irrational fear? I apologise for taking the Mick out of Katana if so. Good luck to you in finding a suitable solution - I think if you search Australian forums you'll have a lot more luck, as I met plenty of people out there that have to deal with huge and disturbing spiders on practically a daily basis hence I think they've got some good ideas how to deal with the phobia.

Check out the British Society of Medical and Dental Hypnosis website. http://www.bsmdh.org/mainframe.htm
If you click on referal list it'll give contact details for a GP near you that uses Hypnosis as a part of their treatments

Chopper,
I am serious about it, the fear is prett ybad and I am actually quite embarrassed about it at times. It is horrible, it can cause me to have a panic attack, I feel totally out of control when I see spider.
It is mad and most definitely irrational, I mean I can handle scorpions, snakes and other such animals - but not spiders!!!!
I also have a great fear of heights and deep water, but not half as bad as the spider fear.
I was once asked, if I was at the top of a suspension bridge, with lots of spiders crawling up it - the only two choices would be to jump into the deep sea below or climb through the spiders............I would rather jump!!!!!
I told you, it is completely irrational!!!!
I am wanting to deal with it swiftly especially before I go to Oz, it will be a nightmare for me otherwise and I doubt I will be able to settle in to life there if I have not removed my fear.
Michelle.

Sensible reply this time.
Phone your local zoo/wildlife place. They will either do visits/courses in this or they will know who will.
Saw something about it a few weeks ago on the box.

Michelle - I have heard of this kind of thing too. They make you accept a tarantula on your hand and let it crawl on you (eek) etc. Mind you, my ex had the same phobia about cockroaches and she became a mad woman when she accidentally saw one ie threw a full bottle of bacardi in Tahiti at one, missed the b*gger and hit me on the head! ouch! I know the spontaneous fear thing - I am guessing the slow introduction course stuff ie zoo will not work for most people. I think hypnotic suggestion is a better way to go. I know nothing about it though...

Chopper....here is a thread I did during a recent arachnid encounter....Close Encounter of the Arachnid Kind

Amusing , but a bit muppet cos you were obviously serious - as per my original apology I think in this thread. Last year I was watching Meet Joe Black in a cabin in a jungle in Queensland and a dirty great huntsman crawled across the tv - must have been 20cm across. My mate Munsy threw his shoe at it and it curled up into a ball. He then proceeded to club it until he thought it was squashed. 30 sec later it unravelled, almost rubbed it's head like a cartoon and wandered off behind the video. Spiders.... think yourself lucky in the UK - at least they are not all called Arnie!

I get either a congratulations off the muppets or a off other users
Generally just a kicking off the other mods especially Shaun LOL
I wish there was an injection or something off my GP that would cure my phobia LOL

Don't worry - phobias are just an interesting part of life. I have a phobia of squid. Don't ask btw... it's the suckers...
I'm sure you can live with it, judging by some of the other rubbish that has gone on in your life, judging by posts.
It's the same problem as an addiction ie smoking/booze... all the same. George Best's solution today was to have a liver transplant. If you apply that to spiders - you have to nuke the country. I'm sorry.

Which is why I would rather learn to live with them
Having a fear of squid isn't too bad imho as I doubt you readily come across them but spiders are fecking everywhere
