After 18 months of pretty serious illness and more needles than I care to think about, I've been told I have needle phobia, and the dear NHS are giving me hypnotherapy sessions.
Anyone been hypnotised for medical reasons - giving up smoking, diet, phobias etc? Did it work? What did you think about it?
I had one session about 3 months ago, I think it helped a bit, but I still shake at the sight of an injection needle.

one of my cousins had hypnotherapy for binge drinking. seemed to work a bit, although the effect appeared to wear off after a few months. my other half had it for smoking, and that seemed to work ok but i think she would have given up anyway since she got pregnant.
i would give it a go - seems harmless enough.

ive had hypnotherapy for migraines...
i never seemed to destress properly
couldnt relax.
it helped loads...
i could feel myself being more confident, and being able to control my thought more.
it meant that my stress levels never got anywhere near as high as they did before.
i need to go back for a top-up, coz i got so used to not being stressed that i went out of practise of self-hypnotherapy.
its a great mind control technique... cant recommend it highly enuff

Have had hypnotherpay for over a year now and it worked when alse else failed
Had been ill for over 10 years and used it as a last resort and it worked when all else failed
Very relaxing and would recommend it to anyone.
Check very carefully and make sure he or she is affiliated and on the National Register of Hypnotherapists and Pschoanalysts
this link should direct you to the register
e-mail me as per profile if you have any specific questions

Thanks all.
Just to add a bit more detail...
My dislike of needles comes from having 6 months of chemotherapy, 2 major operations to remove the tumour and more blood tests than you could shake a stick at!
My hypnotherapist is an NHS hypnotherapist and I will go to the hospital for my session. He is also an aneasthetist consultant, so knows lots about needles. My consultant and case nurse reccommended him and referred me to him, so I don't have concerns about his credentials.
I think I'm just not as open to this as perhaps I ought to be, I had one session, have continued to do ALL the exercises he gave me at home, but don't necessarilly think it has been too successful. Really I was looking for a little positivity and success stories.
Thanks again for all your thoughts on this subject.

You also need to believe 100% in what he or she is doing otherwise it won't work for you..
Good luck
