emirgrating to oz - links/advice etc

A little while ago one of our female posters put up a similar request, but due to the lack of a search facility (grrr) i thought i would re-post rather than troughing through months worth of posts.
I've been thinking about this for some time and have decided to pull my finger out and do something about it.
As i have 12 years exp in IT I can apply for a permanent or temporary visa on a three week turn around (a process thats normally measured in months not days normally i'm led to believe).
As anyone got any handy urls or something that could help or be useful to read?

I've oftened thought about doing to same, but the only thing that has stopped me is financial commitments that I'd need to clear first in the UK.
Hmm.. wonder how long that would take.. I think I could live with sun shine and beaches

iggest advantage at the mo is holding (or working) in IT.
Gets you points bonuses for the 'score' required to enter plus shortens application time dramtically, also if you are in the top 10 wanted jobs list (which i am) you go straight to front of visa queue.
saw these on the top 10:-
1. java
2. ebusiness
3. c++
4. peoplesoft

This is where Myself and the other half are planning on going to.
Unfortunatly, like Dr Evil, we have some fairly hefty financial commitments here too Must stop buying toys.........
I am half Grenadian half English, and really wanted to move back home when I grew up. The house prices, the climate, the sheer beauty of the countryside/space, the mentality etc I absolutely loved and suited me down to the ground.
Unfortunatly I think that my other half wouldn't cope well with such a severe change of lifestyle in the West Indies.
The house prices are amazing over there. (slightly depending on where)You can live like an absolute king for the price of a decent £150K-odd semi over here.
We went to aus this year and I found it to be the perfect mixture of home and home, if you get my meaning....
We are hoping to move to the Brisbane area, if we ever get sorted over here. Simply breathtaking country. Loved it to bits. Nuff said.
Pete, at least you will end up having your 'Techie' as a neighbour!
Cheers,
Nick
P.S. Does anyone on here know how credit Scoring affects this? I am a good boy now, but when I was about 20, I had a bit of financial 'bother' if you know what I mean....

It would be like the Granada Men&Motors version though. You and me sitting in the front garden in each episode with string vests and tinnies, talking about fat turbos, graphics cards and **** whilst watching our women wax our motors...... NOT BLOODY LIKELY!!!!!

I'm interested in getting out there too. Property is cheap and great quality.
Is there any advantage with being in the Commonwealth or being a British Citizen?
I think Gold Coast for me.

My cousin's been back and forth from Oz for the last 15-20 years. She loves it out there (near Adelaide), but the economy's not so hot.... I know a fair few IT guys who've come to Europe 'cos there's not so much money to be made down under...
Another question - what about emigrating to Scotland? Any hints/tips?
