Well all I know is it "may" be a buzzard of some sort, black head with some red and reddish brown body, quite large as you can see by the pictures.
Anyone got any idea?

Its not a bird that inhabits the area I was in, the birds mainly around there are red kites, ducks, geese, buzzards (and some foxes but those are not birds ), plus its not exactly looking like a pheasant, no mottle in its coat, the tail is short, no white ring around its neck and food wise, there really isn't much for it to eat there, though it probably would make a nice meal if it were not for the shot gun pellets
Anyway, thanks for clarifying the bird

and this is a picture of a male pheasant:
I found this thread highly amusing however I have to say your points are valid about the lack of white ring on it's neck and no clear red on the face when zooming in on the photos. However as my pic above shows they don't always have the white ring and the red face can be very dull/small compared to others too.
The bird looks to be either sick or has been injured from the shooting season but has survived as sadly some birds end up this way at the end of the shoot and not all are found and destroyed by the gamekeeper, especially if they have wandered outside of the shooting estate.
The white on the right hand side of the bird (the left as you look at the picture) seems to be wing damage and loss of feathers indicating it's had more than a close call with a shoot. It also gives a distorted shape of the body as it stops you from seeing the long tail as that wing is clearly out of place from the body. However if it's survived this long (the shoot finished end of January) it's obviously doing OK otherwise it would have ended up as fox food by now (Red Kites don't kill anything they are not predatory and are carrion eaters and Buzzards rarely take pheasants despite what any gamekeeper will tell you as they are 'mostly' carrion eaters - what gamekeepers get upset about with Buzzards is if they take poults when put down in the Summer as they are easy pickings especially when the Buzzards will be rearing young at the time poults are put down).
