Low Fuel Warning

Hmmm. No low warning light on the MY96 - I've got one. It's also unreliable looking at the needle and the 'Empty' mark. You fill up thinking it's empty and only get 50 litres in - a 60 (ish) litre tank.
I deliverately ran mine out of fuel a couple of times (ensuring I had a spare can in the boot - except for yesterday but that's a different story.. ) to check how many miles it would do on a tank.
The answer is about 290/300. Petrol consumption varies very little with road use. (Maybe that's just me!!). I've found that one sure way to know I'm running out is that the engine starts misfiring. When it does this I have about 8 miles to find a petrol station.... shame I was 10 miles away yesterday....
Enjoy!

I use to have a MY97 UK car, but it didn't have a low fuel light!
On my current MY99 UK car, is there one, if so where, and how low do I have to run the tank before seeing it!!! I've gone down to about 9 litres (could only get 51 litres in) but it was off the gauge!!!

I'm pretty sure from 98 onwards there is a fuel warning light. It's just pre-98's that don't, unless the imports do???
I am thinking of making something up that will act as a warning light. Cue an electronics wizard.......
I would rely on the guage but it's sooo inaccurate.
Thanks for your help so far. Keep 'em coming guys.
Cheers

Hi Iain,
It isn't a problem with the guage per se. I printed out some advice from our Antipodean friends a while back about how to take out the sender unit from the fuel tank and adjust this. Basically you just bend a wire on the unit! With a bit of trial and error you can get it to read empty with just a couple of litres left.
Haven't actually done it yet as I go on how far below the empty mark the needle is and the mileage on the trip.
