Question

Thinking about changing to clear front indicator lenses on my UK99.

The only thing is that I reckon that the orange bits beneath the indicators will look a bit stupid.

Has anyone changed on a 99, and what did you do with the lower orange sections?

Matt most ppl I think have colour coded the pieces of trim you mention.

I think it goes something like this,

Use a slotted screwdriver to prise them out with a piece of cloth or card to protect the paint on the bumper.

Lightly sand the trim, apply a couple of coats of plastic primer leaving enough time between coats to dry.

Then give them 2 or 3 coats of body coloured paint with again leaving enough time betwean coats and finally I would give it a couple of coats of lacqer.

Once the paint is totally dry then it should just be a case of cliping the trim back in place.

I am sure this is how it is done, someone else will probably be able to confirm if I have got it right.

Thanks Ian, I'll give it some thought.

Richard, stupid question, but is your car black? Mine's DBM, so I guess that any dark blue/black colour might do the job well enough.

Doh!

Matt,

My pictures have not yet been developed (film still in camera).

I will get pics emailed to you next week.

Job took about 1.5 hours (most of time was ensuring piant had dried completely).

Painted mine Black, Looks ok on silver car, waiting for the clear side repeaters and indicators to finish it off. Has anyone fitted the STI rear light clusters ? are they UK legal ?

Question

Liteboy,

Do they still show up, or do they "disappear" when they're black?

Also, what's behind them, is it possible to simply leave them out?

Ta, Matt

Ian

Spot on. I sprayed the 'orange bits' on my car (MY00 DBM). I managed to get hold of can of spray paint from my dealer (Cheam Motors) which was mixed by their local suppliers. Outstanding paint match and they now look much better. Haven't had any stone chips (yet) in 4 months.

Matt

I just took mine out (silver MY00) - same effect as painting them black, and more cold air for induction if you've taken the resonator box off that sits inside the wheel arch.
