I've put an after market snap off steering wheel on to impreza mostly for security reasons. I've put the resistor into the airbag connector to turn it off and it doesn't work. Any ideas on what I could do to turn the light off .Is there another resistor or different way of doing it. I want to be able to put the airbag back on if need be

What size resistor have you tried?
Are you sure it was fitted properly?

I used the resistor that come in the kit kyb I think its called. I've ordered some 3.3 ohm resistors now from Ebay

I tried these off ebay but hasn't worked . I'm assuming that with my ignition on and I fit the resistor the light will go straight off

Did you try more than one together, 1/4 watt arent they? Im sure 1/2 watt was mentioned . .

I tried 4 together. Also I'm pretty sure the resistor dont have to flow the same way

Thats a Diode, not sure what direction of flow has to do with it lol
I used a 3.3 ohm 1/2 watt on my Newage when I removed the Airbag,
Which is why I asked if they were making a good connection.

Hiya I've tried x2 1/4 resistors twisted together and still doesn't do anything. I'm assuming here that if the light is on and I was to put the resistor in the light would go straight off

Hope you didn't turn the clock spring round and then put the wheel on it has to be centred then the wheel fitted otherwise you could of broken it.

It moved a little bit but not a lot

I'm looking at possibly exporting the car to new Zealand.

How are you connecting the resistors?

That connector looks like a “fail safe” type connector.


By that I mean when disconnected there is a internal mechanism that shorts the pins together inside the connector.

If it is one of those types, in order to get round this (without chopping it off) you need to have the other end of the connector plugged in. This why a lot of the “by pass” kits have plug and play connectors.

It will fail the updated Mot rules with that wheel anyway, so I wouldn't worry too much about the light.
