Halfords
Guys,
Basically I cleaned the car yesterday.
Washed it, dried it, polished it - took ages to polish - Damm tar spots.
Then waxed it, Used Meguiars stage 2 & 3 stuff.
Took me about 5 hours and the head unit was busy blasting out my MP3's the whole time.
Tried to start the car afterward - battery dead.
Being easter monday the motor factors were closed, so got a lift to halfords and got one of their HCB005 batteries.
Lift brought me back, and I fittted the new battery - and dead, no ignition lights or anything.
Refitted the old battery again and ignition lights on again, so that told them the new battery was duff.
Rang them and they said they couldn't do anything blah blah not insured to do that, bring the battery back.
So I kicked up a stink and told the manager to bring me a replacement battery NOW.
And fair play he did just that and helped me connect it all up - all well again.
Basically he said that it was a disgrace as the battery I was given was an old battery and not one of the new ones.
I think from reading on scoobynet that these are actually OK batteries - I didn't have much of a choice in purchase really.
Anyone else got one of these batteries?
Shaun

Probably.
However, old battery had been giving problems during the cold spell - struggled to start etc.
Last year returning from holiday after 10 days - car dead, had in-law use of jump leads, but help unavailable this time unfortunately.
Car fires immediately with new battery

Had a similar more embarrassing situation a few months back involving me having to be rescued by a mate in a toyota, THE SHAME!
Replaced the Battery with the Halfords Advanced yokes as thats all they do and its very good, holds its charge well and lasts substancially longer than the Alfa OEM battery when the engine aint running.

Hi Fellas, I'm new to the forum. Been a contented Scooby owner for 8 years (same car: a stock '97 2.0Ltr Sport) with virtually nothing going wrong in that time. Now I'm having battery problems. I replaced the OEM battery in Jan '05 after sudden cold-start problems. I bought the Halfords HCB-005 with the 4 year warranty. It suddenly began failing in Nov '08, replacing under warranty in Dec. Halfords tested it and showed 20% capacity. 2 weeks ago the replacement battery started to fail - tested today : 50% capacity. Really not impressed. After a 2 hour drive, I disconnected the battery 10 days later there isn't enough charge to get 3 turns. Car's had intermitent usage for the past 2 yrs (typically a 200 mile round trip every fortnight - almost no short stop-starts). Bad luck or wrong choice of battery?
Thanks,
Thanks,
