Why am I always asked which job I work in?
I can understand the risk profies BUT I'm a qualified account and run a finance department
What difference does it make if I'm the FD of a Media company, a transport company or something else - why should the risk be any different?
It does bug me - yes sir, you work in finance within which sector was that - Media sir, erm yes, our underwriters need to know what sort of Media.......... its like bloody elllllll - I should just say I'm an FD! - BUT no - thats not not enough with some companies
It does seem very strange though!

Certain occupations carry a higher risk.
For example with certain jobs in media you could be in contact with high profile people. Eg, silly example, but if you was working close to Wayne Rooney (interviewing him) and gave him a lift in your car and had an accident he and Man Utd could put a massive claim against you.
Therefore insurers ask what kind of media you are in, to see if the above (as highly unlikely as it could be) would happen.
Hope this helps to explain it

Had a mate who was a brickie by trade and he always strugled to get a good deal on car insurance because the insurance companies deemed people that worked in the construction industry a high risk.
Apparently they think that when the lads get rained off everyone steams into the nearest boozer, gets blathered and then drives home.
When asked my occupation i always say that i'm a clerical assistant, office based.

Yep - I'm a waterboard employee in the water industry. I've also been a local government employee, office based etc etc. Basically you want your job to sound as boring as possible - you just drive to your mundane house from your mundane job...
