what the hell do i do?
I'm about to buy a X reg wagon (all being well) the problem is it only has the standard immobiliser fitted and nowt else!!!
As far as I can tell theres no paperwork that would satisfy the insurance company. I have however phoned the local Subaru dealer in Widnes and they have informed me that the standard immobiliser is CAT2 approved.
What can I do? The company thats giving me the best quote is expecting some kind of proof and they dont have a Subaru CAT2 system on their database.
I can't afford to get anything installed for a few months so I get the feeling I'm screwed!
H E L P!!!!

Hi mate,
Been in the same situation a few years ago! The answer is simple.
Contact a local alarm company in Widnes and tell them the situation. They'll need to see your car and they'll check over the system. They can tell you if it is CAT2 or not, if it isn't then you'll need to purchase one, if it is then they will issue you with a VSIB form to certify the immob is CAT2.
The other problem you may have is, that even though the immob was CAT2 when the car was manufactured it can be taken off the list as technology advances!!!!
Ring a company and get it check out, usually charge around £20
Nick.

Just to avoid any problems, the standard factory transponder system is NOT Cat 2 approved so...
- Make sure the system you have fitted is a full Category 1 system with it's own 2-circuit immobiliser.
- Make sure the system you have fitted has it's own Radio Keys to operate the Cat 1, as the remotes supplied by Subaru to operate the remote central door locking (if fitted) are NOT Thatcham approved either.
These issues were raised on here afew months ago in a post started by HOWY http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/showthrea...ighlight=alarm.
It makes interesting reading and shows you what to avoid.
The confusion regarding the standard level of security and what you need to fit with your X plate Sport is the same as that encountered by current imports.... although this is further complicated on 01MY on, due to the ignition key housing.
Avoid any sort of "upgrade system" Cat 2 to 1 etc, as there is no approved system on the vehicle to base the upgrade on.
Any dealer that tells you otherwise should be treated with caution.

Thanks Sam, I've committed to buy now, It looks like im gonna get a Cobra 7928 fitted for £280, unless anyone has a better idea (bearing in mind that I'm in Liverpool and options are limited round here) or any serious objections to this system.
FYI best quote Adrian Flux £610 (£890 if you include having to buy the alarm )

No objections to the system (other than the obvious... but I am biased!)
Its a full Cat 1 with it's own remotes so you'll be in the clear insurance-wise.

Hey no offence Sam, I'd like a Sigma, I like the setup, but the only local place to me wants £330 plus vat for an S30. If you can point me in the direction of someone cheaper, who can fit near me, i'll buy from them.
