Default Front Speakers = No sound?

Hi,

Just picked up a Blobeye WRX this week.
The car has an Alpine CDE112RI HU fitted but also had a Subwoofer in the boot.
To negotiate the price of the car down I asked for the subwoofer to be removed which was done. However I noticed that there is no sound form either of the front speakers/tweeters. Checked the Fader control and it is fine set to front and rear equally. Removed unit and checked wiring, seemed to be a separate 4-way connector for FL/FR/RL/RR. Checked all plugs/skts by disconnecting then re-connecting but still no joy.

Anyone any ideas what might be going on and could it be related to the removal of the rear subwoofer?

PS Also turned off Subwoofer on the HU but still no difference.

Just a guess but maybe the fronts were being powered off an amp which was removed along witht the Sub ?

You sure the fronts are being powered by the HU ?

I'm not sure if they are being powered by the HU, is there a way to tell?

Well Id stick a multi meter on the back of the HU first ( on the seperate 4 way plug ) just to make sure theres an output there then Id pop a door panel off and have a look at the actual speaker itself and its wiring .Not sure if youd be confident with doing that or not .... You sure they left the speakers???

Yeah I could do that check thanks.

Are the door panels easy to come off/on without damage?

Prob be easier for you to use a small test speaker instead of the multi meter too im thinking .. just touch its wires to each set of outputs on the back of the Alpine in turn

just ring the previous owner, ask if he was using an amp, and if he left door speakers. would save lots of messing around.

and the door card and headunit are both VERY easy to remove if you need to

NAF spot on the fronts were powered from the removed amp.
Now spliced back into the HU and working perfect - many thanks

RE54 - Just bought the car of a trader who was selling for his mate. Don't think either would have a clue what was powering the fronts tbh mate but thanks for the suggestion.
