Default Sat Nav installed, now speedo doesn't work??

As above really, just fitted a Kenwood sat nav system to my V4 type r, but the speedo does not work!!!!!!!

If i turn the TV headunit off its fine, but with it on the car runs really badly; when i slow/stop the revs drop and has stalled on me a few times!! and the needle will not move..

anybody else had this problem or know what it might be??

just to add;- I have tee'd into the speed sensor wire behind the dials as this is the location of my kmh-mph converter etc.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as i currently have sat nav that i can't use or sat nav and a crappy running car..........

cheers

Sounds like you have tapped into the wrong wire, never experienced the symptoms you mention before.

Down in sunny B'mth so it would be a trek and a half that one!!!

I've tapped into the positive feed from the ecu (black jobby) but turns into blue after the speed converter.

The only wires used up there are;
power
earth
speedo -
speedo +

If i look under navigation setup there's an option vehicle details or something... under here it tells you location, no. of sats being picked up, reverse on/off, park-brake on/off etc. It also tells you your speed which is correct! but its either one or the other, not both

If this isn't the right wire how can it work? surely there is only one?

Also, out of curiosity i tapped into the wire before the converter and both the speedo and sat nav reading worked, but the sat nav was obviously in KMH, which is noooooo good to me.

Cheers for the offer though

It may better to take the Speed Pulse from the ECU, looking on Ravensblade ... http://www.northursalia.com/modifica...ing/wiring.htm, it looks like it is the purple wire on pin3 connector block B135.
You also need to use the ( usually white wire ) from the Kenwood unit and ensure you have the wire intact - it has a small plastic enclosure inline on the wire this contains a diode which is essential.

If i take the feed from the ecu surely it will be in KMH?

The white wire is in tact and has the diode in place, is there any way of checking it is working correctly? or if broken/faulty does it just stop working totally?

I'll give the ECU a once over later and check i am using the right wire, just assumed i was as the sat nav worked!!!

The speed pulse signal is a pulse generated every time the wheel rotates, mph or kmh are not an issue.
It is unlikely the diode is damaged, i think the most likely casue is that the wrong wire is being used for speed pulse.

The sat nav will still work because of the gps antenna, but will be more accurate with the speed pulse connected.

If ever you are in the Glos/Wilts area give me a call, my Forester Sti has the full system fitted including TMC, you're more than welcome to try it out.
