Got far too excited!!
Well I went out to get some Kenwoods with a budget in mind of £120-140
Ended up going a little over budget and got some 165 VSlim Focals which are fabulous.
Fitted them using a slightly adapted Corsa adapter plate which made it all very easy.
Used a bunch of Dynamat which also made a huge difference.
They go SO loud just with the head unit and retain a superb clarity.
On the demo they were great with a head unit and in a different league with a separate amp. Very special indeed.
In terms of depth they are 60mm which left loads of clearance. This is only two mm less than the Kenwoods I was actually thinking of.
Finally after a lot of head scratching on where to put the crossover I have a little tip to add. Wrap it in bubble wrap so it does not rattle around and when you refit the door card pass it out through the big hole. Then when you refit the larger plastic fitting with the window switch in it the crossover (the one I had was quite large) will sit very snugly behind the window switch and the door pull recess.
No mucking about with glueing or fixing.

can totally vouch for the 165 Vslims here too
got them running from a 4 channel PG amp along with 130mm coaxial focals in the back doors on the other 2 channels
sound sweet...really need to give them some power or they sound average tho..
once i'd set the levels properly and maxed out the clarion EQ/Xover output to the amps (matching the high output to the amps sensitivity control) the focals kicked some serious ***!!! and from Texas to Ice Cube its only the dynamat that saves the car!!!!
oh..but then the PG Xenon sub is another story

The VSlims are superb... I fitted a set for the chap who bought my wagon - I should have mentioned those, really .
Might see you tomorrow; I'm on babysitting duty, but you may get a visit from The Boys

Its all finished now.
Pioneer P70BT head unit
Genesis Profile 2 amp (specially chosen due to its light weight John )
Focal 165Vslims (again chosen due to their light weight)
Total weight gain just over four kilos - 25% of which is cables!!
Sound is fabulous - really good - reminds me of a low cost Naim system the way the amp gives real 'slam'
Only limitation is the inability to run the good speaker cable through to the crossovers in the door. I could not get the cable through the door pillar
Overall excellent - and it works as a fully integrated wireless handsfree phone system is a bonus!!

its the reason I sold off my stereo gear as it was just a load of clutter wire and crap.
it is just wrong!
But then it is my second car, and if it were the first, then I would probably insist on it!
Having said that, justa head unit with ipod and the standard BOSE stereo in the TT roadster complete with factory fit sub, is one of the best standard set ups I have heard and doesn't need changing!
