I believe Car Audio Direct is a very reasonable price now-adays for one.

Optima are overpriced. Search for Exide Maxima or Orbital

Split charging can be as easy as a big (and I mean big) relay to ensure that your battery is isolated until the engine starts. Much better than messing with diodes etc, but works best with two identical batteries...

Depending why you want it, a cap may fix your problem!

I was running 2 four-channel amplifiers with a pair of 10" subwoofers. I had teh whole dimming headlights, etc.

Installed a 1.5 Farad cap to feed both amps and it was enough to stop the dimming headlights completely. It even made the bass crisper as well, and would cope with tracks with a fast changing bassline.

I didn't run the stereo until the car was on, as I know it would have drained the battery quickly.

Those were the days...... I now have to worry about boot space with an impending baby gear!!

I've got a deep charge marine battery, gel type, its never gone flat and probably as good as an optima. Also have the old split charge relay, it's a shame Maplin no longer sell these relays as thats where mine was from and has never packed up, its been on three cars so far. I don't run my system without the car running ,keeps the batteries in tip top condition.

No the yellow top is under the bonnet, just using single battery.
