Engine warning light after overrevved
Hi, is that normal that the engine warning light should come on after i over revved today? 2nd gear. All up to temperature.
Is it likely to go off after a few engine restarts?
Thanks

Very common mate, shat myself the first time i done it mine.
will go after about 4 restarts. its for cam position sensor. when i get round to it ill take mine out and clean it, also add some more engine earths.
i have not even hit the rev limiter in mine and it does it, infact i dont even think ive taken it into the redline

My camshaft position sensor error lights up on my bug anything over 6k........known Bug error and messing with the sensor doesn't always work.
Difficult to overrev the WRX out of the box as the rev limiter is set quite low. no point in thrashing the TD04.
Bob Rawle raised my rev limit

I get this and TGV Cylinder 2 volts low, both in the same area next to a big earthing point.
I've found the bugeye ECU to be a bit of a random fault code generator - it's a shame they don't have codes nuumbered 1-49 because I's use it to pick my numbers in a Saturday

not had a go at cleaning mine yet, but it (i think) is on the right hand side just by the cam cover. i cant see it being any other sensor that the CPS so ill give it a go. looks easy enough to get to.

Sounds like easiest option is not rev too high. I was chasing a bike over the mountain here on Isle of Man and was watching what he was doing more than what the revs were doing.
The light on the dash went out when the wife took it to work today. Ill get it plugged in to check code anyway.
Thanks.

ok, i popped it out at lunchtime (the CPS that is!)
10mm ring spanner with a bent end on it was needed. prise the cable clip off the oil filler neck to get access and unplug it, once the screw is cracked it came out with fingers.
the CPS itself was not really dirty, but i gave it a wipe over anyway but i did notice one side of it was a bit rusty/tarnished if that has anything to do with it?
also, there was some oil residue in the plug, so i sprayed some degreaser in there and onto the contacts of the CPS
i dont hold out much hope that its done anything really, so next step is to slap on additional earths.
