Engine warning light after overrevved
Hi, is that normal that the engine warning light should come on after i over revved today? 2nd gear. All up to temperature.
Is it likely to go off after a few engine restarts? Thanks |
I'd get that read, a check engine light.. well.. usually means.. check your engine.
|
True but really after someone with similar experience.
|
Bugeye ?
Shaun |
Yeah.
|
:D
|
Haha why? Bugeyes got problems?
|
Very common mate, shat myself the first time i done it mine.
will go after about 4 restarts. its for cam position sensor. when i get round to it ill take mine out and clean it, also add some more engine earths. i have not even hit the rev limiter in mine and it does it, infact i dont even think ive taken it into the redline |
How far did you overrev it?
|
They don't have I be over revved to come on, The bug seems to do it anywhere from 6k upwards.
|
he said in his first post he did over rev it....
|
be the 02 bank 1 sensor mine dose the same also after a good thrash down motorway i carry the reader and turn it off till the next thrash lol also ive had mine in the red on the rev counter still lives on

Has anyone cleaned this before? BIg job? Will it be a fairly longterm fix? Thanks |
My camshaft position sensor error lights up on my bug anything over 6k........known Bug error and messing with the sensor doesn't always work.
Difficult to overrev the WRX out of the box as the rev limiter is set quite low. no point in thrashing the TD04. Bob Rawle raised my rev limit :) Shaun |

Thanks I get this and TGV Cylinder 2 volts low, both in the same area next to a big earthing point. I've found the bugeye ECU to be a bit of a random fault code generator - it's a shame they don't have codes nuumbered 1-49 because I's use it to pick my numbers in a Saturday:D |
not had a go at cleaning mine yet, but it (i think) is on the right hand side just by the cam cover. i cant see it being any other sensor that the CPS so ill give it a go. looks easy enough to get to.
|
That's the one:thumb:
|
also, i can make earth cables etc up so is there any specific good places to put some?
or just an extra block to chassis type affair? cheers :D |
I can confirm spending £120 on a new sensor from Subaru doesn't work...
I can confirm it makes your wife wonder about your sanity though. |

Sounds like easiest option is not rev too high. I was chasing a bike over the mountain here on Isle of Man and was watching what he was doing more than what the revs were doing.
The light on the dash went out when the wife took it to work today. Ill get it plugged in to check code anyway. Thanks. |
p430 iirc?
it does make your arse cheeks clench any time a light comes on tho lol  |
Post number 16 sort of sums up what the DENSO ECU does :)

Well i had a go this morning, didnt hit the soft limit, nor the hard but go it slightly into the red in 2nd... CEL on again now lol
if i get time at lunch ill whip the CPS out and give it a clean |
ok, i popped it out at lunchtime (the CPS that is!)
10mm ring spanner with a bent end on it was needed. prise the cable clip off the oil filler neck to get access and unplug it, once the screw is cracked it came out with fingers. the CPS itself was not really dirty, but i gave it a wipe over anyway but i did notice one side of it was a bit rusty/tarnished if that has anything to do with it? also, there was some oil residue in the plug, so i sprayed some degreaser in there and onto the contacts of the CPS i dont hold out much hope that its done anything really, so next step is to slap on additional earths. |
