Default fuel pressure question..

I fitted a 2nd hand sard FPR a while ago to my uk turbo, my98. mainly to get a bit more from the 380s so set it at 3.2 with vac off. Head gasket went so Ive replaced the engine with v4 sti and all the supporting bits and also fitted the adapter to carry on running with the sard FPR. Seems to be running brilliant but not really given it beans. i fitted an incar fuel pressure gauge and when coming on boost i noticed the pressure didnt rise in time with boost, hardly moved at all really. on the guage at 1bar boost it was reading just over 3bar fuel pressure. As a test i refitted the standard reg, removed the sard and took it for a spin. Gauge shows 4bar at 1 bar of boost now which i feel more happy with but now it feels like its got a slight miss when coming onto boost... any ideas what that could be? was smooth as a silk before i put the original FPR back on...

ive looked on ebay and theres a lot of cheap sards from china etc.. i wonder if thats what i have accuired.

sorry for the long read just been going through my mind.

Thanks

Rich

I think you have knocked the nail on the head there is so much snide parts about if you don't buy from a reputable dealer your just playing the lottery with your money.

A presumably cheap 2nd hand regulator of unknown quality or genuineness has cost you an engine, time to put your hand in your pocket, so to say, and buy a known genuine item from a reputable source.

Or available from Alyn @ AS Performance also, 0191 410 3770 - I think Alyn is on his winter break though, best to try from Monday.

Should really be using PFR-7B's if it's decatted anyway, mate.

Unsure on the cam sensor, may well be coincidence, worth getting it checked. Do you have one to try?

Thanks for the replys, changed the cam sensor for the one in my old head gasket failed engine. fired up and was lovely. took for a spin to warm up and still had the miss. Pulled plugs when cooled and checked gaps, they was set at .5 so regapped to .7 but still not quite right. the colour on the plugs was quite strange. the metal part of the plug was black and the insulator was mostly black apart from the very top which was white. whats that mean? ill order some pfr7bs and put those in as it is decatted. what should the gap be on those?

Thanks

I've never had any 7B's regapped, always just fit and drive. Never had a problem.
