UK2000 misfire ?
Hi folks,
I'm new to the forum and Ive searched for info but can't find much to answer my problem.
My x reg uk 2000 has developed a misfire, Ive changed the plugs, leads and coil pack ALL NEW ...and still the misfire.
Its only under load and after I disconnect battery it will drive fine for about a minute even with full load then the misfire cuts in...im coming to the end of my tether now any help would be very appreciated...im stuck at what could be causing it ?

Sounds like you have a ' fuel cut ' due to an electronic fault on the car. If so it should happen at about 4000 rpm. Disconnecting the battery cancels the fault code stored in the ECU until you have done anything up to 5 miles then if the fault has not been cured it'll revert to a ' safe ' setting.
You can self diagnose by connecting the diagnostic wires together under the dash and watching the Check engine light flash.
Do a search on here or Google for a full spec of how to do that and I think you'll find the problem quite easily.
If the tick-over is bad when you slow down for traffic lights and it nearly stall the engine it will be the Mass Airflow meter, which is a regular problem on your age car. BUY genuine if you need one, some of the replacement market ones work just outside the usual Subaru voltage range and whilst it can be mapped out when re-mapped, you might not want the expense of that. NEW genuine are about £100.00 + VAT fit it yourself in under 5 minutes with the correct anti tamper tool.
Good luck, Call us if we can help in any other way.

I've just paid £140 for a MAF (for a Classic) so make sure the dealer quotes the full price inc the VAT before you pay (it was quoted as £122). I CBA to walk away, I just wanted the part and won't go there again.
Cheers
