Default intermittant starting issue..

hi chaps, ive got an MY96 classic (JDM) its got an intermittant starting fault it'l start 1 in 3 times fine. engine is completely standard. Starting circuit wise its all ok ie starter and battery, fuel system is good... im going down the lines of crank sensor and lack of spark now, i did have the cam belt changed a month or so ago is it possible something could be a miss there? when running it runs spot on at all times no missing nothing...is it possible for the crank sensor to fault without throwing up a code??
any ideas very much appreciated guys.

cheers. dale.

be sure to check the main feed wire to the starter for a good connection and also the ground wire is tight

I have exactly the same problem, I changed my starter 7 months ago and its gone back to not starting!

If I rock her back and fore, she'll start then! Very annoying, so would like to see what problem you find!

So does it crank and not fire up? Does it just click? Or no noise at all? when it doesnt start. New starter a few weeks ago doesnt mean its not the starter aspecially it it was a cheap recon unit or second hand

It was a new unit, it doesn't make a sound when trying to start it.

Sounds like the solonoid on the starter is sticking. Hard to say without seeing the car. Theres bound to be a specialist in your area

starter was a brand new one fitted 10 or 11 weeks ago. it cranks over fine (until the battery cant take it any more) then switch her off then on again straight away and itl start absolutely fine! just doesnt fire all starter/battery connections are good all removed and cleaned up etc no problems there. blue14rep mate sounds like were in the same boat!
cheers dale.

Possible coolant temp sensor? Wouldn't throw a light in some cases so no code to read

Ok, grannys sucking eggs, but you ARE keeping your foot clear of the throttle before trying to start it, aren't you?
As even a little dab at the tghrottle before cranking it can cause it to flood...........
