RCM 400 Upgrade Advice
Hi all,
I'm running an RCM 400 with 20% Meth in the mid 400s. The turbo has started blowing blue smoke on the overrun, only occasionally but I want to fix this. Iv been looking at other turbos but the RCM hasn't done many miles & I'm now considering getting it rebuilt.
Who is the best company to do this & is there an upgrade available like on the Lateral MD321 range?
Thanks, Richard.

Other than the very successful turbo that they did for my car [ as Joz says ] I have never used Owen for their own brand turbo's. I have been told that they can be laggy in use, by two mappers, but I am just repeating what has been said, I haven't seen that for myself.
I use the Blauch type billet turbos in conjunction with Scoobyclinic and would have to be very well persuaded to use anything else these days. Never had a bad result with one of them.
Certain of them are ' model specific ' insomuch as, just because an xyz turbo works well on one model car doesn't mean it works well on all models and now we all have some mapping and installation data on them, it is less likely that you'll get offered a wrong Blauch from us or Clinic or RCM etc etc.

I have mapped a fair few Owen built Subaru hybrid turbos over the years and what the mappers have told you is spot on.
In use they appear to be much less responsive than the Turbo Dynamics, Scoobyclinic or Turbo Technics hybrids we have also tried.
They do make good power though.
We too will be sticking to the SC and Turbo Technics hybrids for the foreseeable future.

I believe John Felstead has been testing Owen's latest twinscroll turbo during the sprint season, its taken a while to get there but by all accounts John is very happy with it.

The SC series are a modified blouch turbo, well turbo's modified by blouch to scoobyclinics spec. They been resold by other companies under different names, but are still SC's.
No idea if that's the case with the RCM400 or not, if they are indeed TD and not blouch im sure TD would be the place to speak to, sure a phonecall to em can sort it one way or another.
p.s. different sc series are based on different turbo's, TD05 16g's, 18g's, 20g's etc etc
