Thumbs down Classic oil filter?!

Well back in the day I just ordered a genuine filter and washer but now I'm sensing some confusion

People are saying don't use the black ones and the blue ones and some people are saying only use a genuine one

I just want a decent oil filter for my RB5 that's not price inflated because it's 'Genuine'

Someone point me in the right direction so I can get on with it

I use the genuine Blue ones and the black ones when I can get them & to be honest I cant fault either, I change the oil every 3000 miles so the filter comes off too.

the other option is a Blueprint ADL filter from a local motor factor for around £5

I was going to go for a Blueprint one actually...

So my engine won't explode if I fit a £5 filter. Great that will do me

Oil & filter change every 6 months. I use K&N filters at £9, with no issues!

I know, but shows they have never had any probs either or they wouldnt still use them. Certain things you should buy genuine but not oil filters especially when the blue subaru ones dont exactly have a flawless reputation.Prob cost about two quid to make and sell them for about five times that! The mark up main dealers make on parts is laughable,

The new blue filters are made by Honeywell Canada, the same people who make Fram filters.
I believe Subaru changed to these blue filters from the old black filters was because they revised the PRV. The blue filters PRV opens at 23psi. The K&N opens at between 11-17 psi but is a higher flow filter so that may have a bearing on the prv rate.
I'm not sure what the opening pressure is on the Blueprint, subaru black or Fram and i don't think the PRV will come into play if the oil and filter are clean.
I personally use K&N and have had no issues but mine is changed twice a year.
