2.1 or 2.2 ?
Hello guys,
Hope you can help I am stuck with a decision if to go 2.1 stroker on my 2004sti ver 8 motor with avcs or I have been offered a 2.2 bottom end for my motor ! What do you think is better as have seen 2.1's can cost a fair bit maybe it might be better to go for a 2.2 instead what do you think ?
Any advice would be appreciated
Cheers

I have been offered a 2.2 bottom end for £1k obviously costs to fit and upgrade etc but every time I ask someone roughly how much to fit a 2.1 stroker no one will give me an idea ? The initial cost is £1800 to buy the kit but fitting everyone avoid telling me ? I know it will vary but just want a rough idea so I know how much to save and what is best to go for. Got £6k coming my way at the end of the year if not a little more depending how much I can save this year. Got a sc50 billet to fit so it is either 2.1 or 2.2 from the sounds of it a 2.35 stroker will have to wait as they seem to be a fair bit more and I need this money to fit my goodies too ! Any advice appreciated.

you have answered your own question then. a 2.35 is considered the ultimate engine for big power builds. it is mega expensive depending on how much power you want. Alan J does a roll in rollout 2.1 stroker conversion for about £4 - 5K. he is getting really results with these i.e north of 500hp.

There are quite a few EJ22 short engines about that are from the normally aspirated US versions of the Legacy. Obviously these are no good for you as they are, although they might be ok if just using the block.
If you have to build a complete engine, assuming you already have an EJ22 block, it hardly costs any more to build a 2.35 than a 2.1 from an EJ20 CDB.
If you have any details, and would like to discuss it all, just PM me and I'll try and answer it all for you.

Ok getting somewhere now. Cheers Alan will get in contact at the end of the year once I know exactly how much I can spend! Did not know that about the 2.2's assumed the ej22 bottom ends going on here were all the same shows how much I know ha ha yes very aware the 2.35 is the epitome of Subaru engines as far as most are concerned so would be nice but the 2.1's are also producing pretty impressive figures from what I hear. Just worry a little as have a sc50 billet to go on and don't want it to struggle if you know what I mean. Think it may be a little too much for my 2.0 mind you I hear some get good results.

All depends on your targets,if are funds for 2.35L i would go everytime with 2.35L if budget is limited 2.1L will be good option
AVCS will be good for spool up,but for controlling the AVCS you will need aftermarket ECU like Syvecs,MoTec,SimTek or Link an others

No and yes, some are open deck blocks which are been too on older Impreza or Legacy.
But in higher power builds are used EJ22T
