If you know anything about write offs HERE please
Im in the process of selling my MY99 scoob, the reason? I want a Caterham/westy, I do love my scoob, just want a little more J
A very nice chap, has a very nice westy, but the westy took a knock, not that bad a knock, but it will mean that a new chassis will be required among other things, nothing im not prepaid to build ( I quite fancy the idea of the build)
The insurance company of the current owner have called ia a write off category C, this implies its fine for repairs.
Here is the trouble lets say said car is a “N” reg, if I buy a new chassis and repair/rebuild the car and its as good as new, will
A) it have the same number plate?
B) Can I have a Brand new number plate?
C) Will it be considered a write off if anyone checks (thinking about re sale) with HPI or similar.
D) If I buy this write off, can I just build it and thus it’s a brand new car,? I.e new vim plate and all that?
E) It has a very special cosworth engine, this may not pass the svg test if I Claim it to be a NEW car, (could I cat it, to pass?)
If anyone knows the said car I am referring to, the owner knows im posting this J but I would like to keep their anonymity, unless they choose to post, they are more than welcome J
Any help and advice here would be greatly apresheated

Car is a catagory C write off.
The car keeps its V5 document and chassis number. Registration plate could stay the same or be changed to a plate of the same year or personalised to a cherished number.
The test you are refering to is the SVA test that all new kit cars have to go through, one of the big plusses of this car is that you dont have to put it through the SVA test but it will be recorded on HPI check.
If the car is is built as a new car, i.e new chassis number, it would require SVA testing. Buying a new chassis for rebuild purposes doesnt need a new chassis number.
I will post these questions on the sevens list and let you know, there are plenty of people on there who have been through this process.
And yes, it's my car we are talking about.

OK, i posted on the sevens list.
I forgot to add, i have the engine management system, injectors, MAP sensor etc to take it back to standard spec "temporarily" *cough*. It's Lambda close loop controlled too using the P8 ECU which is the ultimate ECU for engine management on the cossie. I always forget these kind of things.
Even in 330BHP trim it passes MOT emisions. I believe SVA is a tighter test though. I'll post the answers i get on here.

Some of the answers on the sevens list. This isn’t the westie forum catflap, this is a list of hardcore seven builders/rebuilders. LOL

I've had a Category 3 and a Category 2 write off... Rebuilt in the same
registration both times.
A) Can it have the same number plate?
Yes.
B) Can it have a brand new number plate?
Not sure. Is it Q plated?
C) Will it be considered a write off if anyone checks (thinking about re
sale) with HPI or similar.
I don't think so. I've written off mine twice now, and its had a new chassis
both times.
D) Can it just be built as a brand new car? I.e. new vin plate and then
put through SVA?
No need to SVA it, just register it as having the new VIN plate. The VRO
might want to varify the new number, and take forever getting round to it...
E) Will the Cosworth Turbo engine pass the SVA emissions test? Anyone
done this recently?
Shouldn't have to SVA it.
Build 'em, crash 'em & build 'em again...*

If the engine is pre- August 1995 then 3.5 % CO and 1200ppm HC will apply. A
Cosworth should pass this with no problem. It will be necessary to get proof
of age for the engine, however.
If the engine is newer than this it could get tricky.

The engine is a dec 93, so no problems then!

I am speculating here, but surely the DVLA will only reassign the reg
number after the car has been officially destroyed. Therefore, if you
buy the car back before it is destroyed (kinda obvious) it will still
have its number plate.
When I built my Seven (on a Q plate) the regs specifically stated
something along the lines of: the car can retain its number plate if all
componenets are retained with the exception of the chassis/body shell
which is to be replaced with a brand new chassis/body shell. These regs
were presumably put in place to allow classic cars to have new bodies
and not have to be re-registered on a Q (e.g. Mk2 Jags, E-types, MG-Bs,
etc...)
Cheers,
Graham

I confirmed with the insurance assessor that it does retain its registration number. This can be changed to another asigned L plate to allow me to sell the reg seperate if that means a beter deal for me.
