Default Engine & Engine Bay Cleaining Tips

Hi all,

Looking at having a good clean up under the bonnet, can anyone provide any tips please? I know that I can use silicone spray for detailing after it's all clean, but there appears to be a furry dust like layer over most of the metal parts.

I used to use carb cleaner on my old cars but I wondered if there was anything better out there I could use?

Cheers,

Wells.

Autoglym engine and machine degreaser is fairly good, spray it on and agitate with a small brush. Seems to get rid of most oily marks, some take a couple of attempts if really thick.

Then just needing something to put on the plastics and rubbers and jobs a good'un.

I 2nd the Autoglym engine and machine degreaser, love the stuff. Get another spray bottle with just water to spray away the degreaser as you've brushed with it.

Swiss Tony's tutorial is pretty spot on.

Another handy tip - Baby wipes mate, if they can get the **** of my daughters **** they can clean any engine bay. Brilliant cleaners and quick too.

When you dress it after cleaning, use a dedicated dressing and not the likes of WD40 which will attract dust and can damage rubber

Envy brushes (eBay) radiator brush (tape around the metal part) and work a small area at a time starting at bottom and working up.

Don't let any cleaner-de-greaser dry on.

If you don't have a pw that you can turn down the pressure, use the hose.

Good idea! Hadn't thought of using radiator brushes... and never even heard of Envy brushes. Just purchased a set.

Cheers.
