has it got equal length headers?
its the unequal lenght ones that give it the burble, jap cars have equal length and no burble.

Think all the 2.5's have equal length as standard now. My UK 2006 WRX has them.

I changed the whole exhaust from the turbo, left the headers and it sounds like a proper scooby now!

It's interesting then that my MY11 WRX STi Saloon has UN-equal length headers and was very quiet with standard exhaust.

All 2.5's have the equal length header SUMP fitted as standard .

Here's an equal length header set up (albeit twin scroll)

OEM manifold..... wrapped and minus part of its heatshields

If you want the burble back I expect you will need to invest in a new cat back exhaust as a minimum.

I had a test in a 2.5 56 plater wrx before buying my 2lt wrx (55 plater) and it sounded sooo queit - no burble at all so i thought it was something to do with the 2.5 engine (at least now i know the reason behind it, cheers lads!)

I think if you get another back box (eg Prodrive) you will get the burble.
My 06 STI (UK spec D) definately has unequal length headers, but the original exhaust system was muffled to death.

Change the centre pipe and backbox to regain the burble.

It's the exhaust manifold (known as headers on an impreza) that denotes whether it has the burble or not. The exhaust system just denotes how quiet/loud it is.

Anything not twin scroll turbo is unequal length, twin scroll turbo is equal length (turbocharged cars only of course )
