Default More power out of my classic

Iv got a 96 classic, redtop engine I'm wanting a bit more power out of it, currenly the engine is standard apart from a sard dumpvalve and a cat back exhaust system, can anyone give me any pointers, ie turning the boost up or parts, I'm not wanting massive amounts that's going to cost me a fortune.

Pete.

what sort of power you are looking to achieve as the list of things to do is endless so you need to set ur self a goal and that way we know what you want.
has the car been mapped with the downpipe?

Im not looking for crazy figures, iv got a fmic and airfilter coming next week, prob make it a full exhaust system and remove the cat, different turbo, just the general basics, no internal work. As far as I know the ecu is standard, I don't even know were it is ha. I haven't had a good look round the car, the turbo still has the metal heat shield round it so I'm guessing it's hasn't been tampered with.

I haven't got the original dumpvalve, the car came with the sard dumpvalve, my car seems to use alot of petrol I don't give it booting but I do get the boost up, I can put £20 in and get 30 mile if that, I wouldn't mind if it's running 500bhp ha, what turbo would you recommend what sort of figure am I looking at if I get a uprated turbo, decat, fmic, headers, filter, remap ?

No point in uprating your turbo, the one on there is good enough for what you need, you should look at the brakes, not very good, plus you say its a redtop, that makes me think its a version 3 sti, you are going to need an aftermarket ecu with that (simtek is circa 1200 quid all in inc map), fair bit of cash gone there.
Also doesnt sound right to start with, I get 50 miles out of a tenner and im running more power on the standard map than your car is, think you need to sort that problem out first before you do anything else or your just throwing money down the drain....

Jesus 50mile to a tenner im getting my pants pulled down i thought they where just heavy on juice,

What do you think it could be, it starts up first time, runs very well no knocks bangs or smoke, comes on boost nicely,

its getting a oil change this weekend.

Probably a sensor thats gone so its running too rich, you need a speciallist to look at it really to say what it is but I get 18mpg around town in a (not quite so heavy) new age JDM STI

Yes it might pick it up, in some ways its better at fault finding than the ecu, especially for the niggly issues

You could always sell yours & buy one that already has more power which tends to be a more cost effective solution
