Default Impreza to Forester Changeability?

Hello all,

I have a MY97 Subaru Impreza UK Turbo which has a few mods, currently making 334bhp.

I am thinking of buying a JDM MY96 Forester T T/B. Which is an auto.

My Impreza has a bit of engine work and I was wondering what I could transfer to the Forester without too much hassle.

Here is a list of parts I would like to transfer if possible.

Apexi Power FC with commander
VF28 roller bearing turbo
Injectors
GFB lightened pulleys
Walbro fuel pump
Hybrid frount mount intercooler
K&N Induction system
Full open mouth decat heat wrapped
Uprated turbo up-pipe heat wrapped
Perrin uprated droplinks
Solid anti roll bars
Aluminium STI bottom arms
Sti front carbon brace
Sti rear carbon brace
STI JDM steering wheel

So what, if any, could I transfer?

Thanks

Forester and Impreza using same engine and same ECU,not sure about the Apexi Power FC if will be compatible with Auto box(they're using TCU and TCU is connected to ECU and ECU control Torque control signal,Torque control cut signal,Load etc and not wiring TCU with ECU will cause more problems,i know from own experience)

Suspension you can use from Impreza just you must need replace rear top mount for Forester

Thanks for the quick response.

I had a feeling it being an auto would cause issues with the Apexi.

Would it be worth putting the FMIC, injectors and turbo in the forester?

I am not sure if the ECU of the forester can be remapped.

Thanks

FMIC,injectors and turbo you can put(without the remap will be not wise),but maybe worth to do swap to manual and use your Apexi

Forester OE ECU not sure(i mean this this year,i think mappable Forester ECU is from '99),if can could be mapped ,probably best is ask MartynJ or Simon@JGM.

Or maybe is available ESL daughter board, try contact dealers of ESL(Simon,Duncan or MartynJ)

I am half thinking of taking the whole loom, engine and gearbox out of the impreza and putting it in the Forester!

How hard can it be?

It was not my intention to swap the gearbox over, just wanted to see if the Apexi would go straight in.

What I meant was do you want/need an auto? If you haven't bought the car you could look to get a manual S/tb like mine. T/tb only comes in auto, S/tb comes as auto or manual gearbox.

I've before Automatic on mine Impreza WRX,has been OK,but if you are looking at 350-400bhp you will be OK,but if you are looking for more will not hold.

Mine 4EAT(autobox) has been Tiptronic with +/-(or paddle shift),great and nice to drive, which is now for sale.

I have had a manual Forester S T/B and an Auto Forester S-Turbo.

To be honest, even though slower, the auto was nicer to drive.

The Forester will be my daily driver, and it is for towing my boat and carrying the associated gear for the boat.

I just wondering if any of the gear from the wagon would fit the Forester. I dont think I can be bothered with doing any major work as I am not looking for any major power from the Forester, if I wanted that I would just go and buy a Forester STi.

As i said before, yes you can change almost everything from Impreza to Forester without the problem, just Apexi will not work, you can try to fit,but not sure if will work

I will give it a try and see what happens mate.

What about the turbo, I know it will fit but will it be ok as the ECU cannot be mapped.

Some guys in USA tried this and have problems with shifting, jerkiness etc.
One ECU which can work with 4EAT TCU and its mappable is ProEFi http://www.proefi.com/

Yes you can put bigger turbo(but without the mapping will be not very wise),i would suggest ask ESL dealers about supporting your OE ECU,if its possible fit there ESL daughter board
