If yours is a bug eye wrx it will hav a cat in it so a sti or decent aftermarket is a good upgrade

Not much with just the up pipe, you should get better spool up on the turbo at least.

That's ok mate. It won't help with outright power more than a few bhp and a few more torque but the main purpose is it will help spool so your on boost quicker and earlier. It also reduces the risk of the cat breaking down and disintegrating while letting it's internals through the turbo. I swapped my wrx up for a sti item
On my way to 322/331 off a vf35 unit.

STi item has no EGT sensor boss.......you will have to deal with the CEL by way of a resistor fix or re-map.

don't buy an big ebay blingy one, the diameter is far too large and reduces spool and creates lag. second hand sti up pipe will do or even one off a classic will fit, i am told.
If you want the best gains and best up pipe, then harvey(on here) is your best bet
