Default Bloody overheating!!!

Hi all, had a wierd incident with car last nite. Temp gauge got really warm but no heat in heaters......the heat only came through if I was under load. There is water and new coolant in so not that, and no leaks. Could this be the thermostat playing up????
I have noticed that the header tank gets really hot as to does the top rad pipe, but the pipe at bottom of rad is cold in comparisson.
Any suggestions would be greatly recieved, thanks again.

The air lock is a right PITA, it can seem as though its gone, come back and annoy you all over again. Do a search on here to find out how to remove it properly, its a pain to get rid of.

When you say new coolant, do you mean very recently?
If so then it may not be bled properly.

Woolsta82 - were the block or heads skimmed? Best start a new thread otherwise you'll get confused with the OPs question.

Dont drain all the coolant as there is a way to get the locks out without going back to step 1. Someone will be along to tell you the way.

I have the same issue with the wifes classic new bench built engine with only 2000mls on it heater works when it feels like it had the system drained and new coolant ect then it never worked then it went back to the same,i have now been advised to change the heater control unit because if its the electical type it could be that, worth a try as i have had everthing else checked.

Looks as if it may have been air lock. Had a mechanic mate round today and after a good hour of letting it warm up and blow bubbles out itself, seems to be ok at mo......I will keep an eye on it and let you know.

I had to remove the fans off the rad to change mine, but I am not very mechanically minded, and found it easy enough
