Default Anyone explain this??

Hi, I have owned my98 uk turbo 200 since october and since buying the speedo has never worked. I have bought the VSS but yet not had time to get it fitted due to needing the car everyday for work.

Now.. here is the interesting part.....On our way home i looked at the speedo and it was working So we go pick up the missus's car (21.2 miles registered) and whilst there i get my ECU error Codes (24 + 33) Start her up and now she won't work

Anyone able to explain this?? I'm planning on getting the sensor fitted soon but have heard its a PITA, and therefore easier to do with the box off the car. I will be buying a new clutch soon so will be getting it fitted at the same time.

Am now worrying that just changing this sensor is not the problem and may be something alot simpler.

Thanks

Mike

Could be as little as the cable disconnected at one end or another or snapped. Idle Air Control Solenoid may be related due to the fact that the ECU has no idea as to what is occurring as it is not receiving the correct info from the VSS.

If the ECU is not getting the correct info from the VSS and it thinks you are at idle/stopped, hence the IACS tries to take over it can't because you are running above idle, ergo, the ECU throws a code 24 wobbler.

if the vss packs up doesnt the ECU limit revs to 4500? and the odometer wont work either?

if this is true it would be more likely its the speedo head at fault

also im not sure if its any different to an my99, which is easy to change the vss with the box in situe.

Correct on all counts r1c.

No speedo=limp mode 4500rpm.

Speedo head/cable or connections at fault. Always been the cable for me.

VSS will be the same job on a MY99 iirc.

Thanks for the replies, it is not cable driven. It has the VSS in the same postition. I know its hard to get at from the top ( i have tried). Any other tips to get at it ?? The plot does get thicker though. It has worked both times i have driven the car, yet just drops off after approximately a mile.

I'm pretty sure i was able to get to my converter from the underside with relative ease, just with a pair of drive on ramps.
