Default Mapping advice

Hey guys,

i have finally decided too stick with the standard ecu and get it ecu-tek'd remapped by bob rawle.

he is mapping it next wednesday.

The bits so far are:
RCM Headers
Do-luck panel filter
5Zigen exhaust
De-cat
VF30/VF34 turbo
Walbro 255 pump
HKS SSQV

I would like your guys advice on wether or not too keep my hks ssqv, amend hks so it re-circ's or revert back too standard dump valve (bob mentioned about lag issues on gear changes)

and wether too change my do-luck panel for a HKS mushroom which i have collecting dust in garage.

cheers guys ;-)

stick with OE airbox and good quality panel filter, metal mesh one so as the not to get sucked up into the intake, k&n such like i have a simota, as for dv vta one's can cause a slight richness between gearchange but only for a split second or so, whem i get my car mapped i will be going back to recirc so she runs spot on

I'd speak to Bob and go with whatever he recommends.

mmm he recommends keeping panel filter, not running an after market boost controller just setting ecu to requiered boost.
run ecutek and also go back too standard dumpvalve.

i just wondered if anybody else had any advice.

bob ceratainly knows his stuff, and is a great bloke!

anybody running hks ssqv's with no probs?

I'd stick with panel filter unless you go for a proper CIA like AEM or K&N (think they are the same anyway lol)

Let the ECU do the boost control. Bob should be able to give you 2 boost setting via demist switch.

If the standard BOV can cope with your boost, let the standard BOV do it.

FYI , i bought one of these do-luck pannel filters took one look at it and left it in its box , it was saturated with oil (really not a good thing with sensitive MAF on your my99) , K&N are better but are still oil/mucas loaded filters.

I belive you can get a dry foam pannel from pipercross still have this fitted for last 15k miles (washable) and no problems at all.

also you can get an STI panel filter.. not the one from an STI as it is the same as standard but STI make a better flowing dry filter

Hi all, some dump valve i know to give problems, hence I advise against, if you are keeping to the std ecu and/or maf based then a recirc is best, vta can cause drivability issues plus car jerking/shuddering on throttle ease off.

Boost controllers have their place but if you use one then obviously you negate the factory ecu safety boost cut, the ecu would read a problem, react, but nothing would happen, so again under most circumstances the ecu is best left to control boost, GC8 jecs single boost level, New age WRX and STi can have twin boost levels plus launch control btw. Now if it was an EVO a boost controller would be strongly recommended as EVO oem boost control is pants.

At this power level there is no point fitting an induction kit and the panel filter already installed is fine, the STi panel (which I sell incidentally) is a one shot use and at that is expensive which is why I suggest cleanable filters such as K & N are much better value.

cheers

bob

assuming you have a newage it is done with the hardware on the car already.. no need to buy any controller.

remap pricing www.jollygreenmonster.co.uk currently offering free dyno time or travel to you within reason.

Thanks
Simon

Hey bob,

Cheers for very informative response ;-)

I have faith in your knowledge and have advised Spencer which bits to alter.

Can't wait too reap the rewards after you've done your stuff next week ;-)
