Default Grinding?

I'm looking for some help

I've noticed last night and today that when the car either leans to the right after some quick cornering, or is going round the roundabout I get a grinding / knocking sound

When I got home I went from full lock to full lock with no issues and turning on full lock doesn't give any sound. I'm thinking it's either;

a) Wheel bearing

b) Shock mount??

c) Really hope not, but driveshaft or diff

d) CV Joint

e) The road lol!!!

Any help much appreciated

Good shout mate. I'm going to jack it up tomorrow and see if there is anything obvious. I don't mind if it's something simple, just praying it's not the diff.

This happened on a previous car of mine, when the car would lean over to the left the tyre would rub with the arch, looked and it turned out to be a bad shock absorber.

I'm probably going to change to coilovers at some point anyway so it's not the end of the world.

I just took the car up to the local ASDA (other supermarkets are available) and it all seems OK on both locks, no noise nothing s

So I went in grabbed my shopping and on walking back something hit me........... I have Prodrive mud flaps on the car. Given the shocks have 85k on them it wouldn't be beyond the car to sway enough on certain cambers to briefly touch them on the tarmac, or would it?

Also with the roads being so poor right now with compacted snow, ice and grit that wont be helping.

Hmm, if it is them I feel a tw*t...........

thats ya problem then, mine was doing the same when chris from austria was test driving it. plus you'll also get snow what get chucked up into the arch and collecting causing it to rub on the tire?

the car has gone, well not quite. ive been paid a deposit and im due to take her to austria to be delivered and spend a couple of days out there. really gonna miss her tho

Have you replaced pads or discs lately? i had this on a classic before and when taking a rounabout at speed the pad would rub against the disc.

it sure is, 1100 mile trip ive had people say why you taking it all that way when you can sell it in the uk.

the answer is. yes i could sell it in the uk but the fact is its an experience. driving 4 countries in 1 day, the autobahn, the scenary, in a sti prodrive
i will also be taking plenty of photo's for whoever would like to browse em

im spending 3 days there with a friend from the uk, chris and his girlfriend.
he is a nice lad, i know he will care for it. he is paying all the travel expenses.
so all in all it should be a good road trip, and ive not only sold my car but made a good friend in the progress

I think that sounds brilliant mate, even more so that its gone to an enthusiast and you can hang out, have a holiday and he pays

Nice to see people being nice to one another, a rare occurrence these days.

yeah, also sounds brilliant to me.
I'm already looking forward to meet Wayne and his friend here in Austria, to spend some days together and to show him Tirol. (hopefully we will have some snow, that wayne and me may drive the STI and my Audi sideways) It was also a great experience to fly to wayne first, I didn't know what i had to expect, but had a good day with Wayne and his family-thanks again. (and by the way also bought a good car, but i do have parking space problems-too many cars)
seems that I also made a good friend!

I trust in Wayne and I'm sure he will handle her with care.
And if the engine and the oil is warmed up and the car is alright, highspeed will not be a big issue for a car. (I drove my Audi with >> 250 km/ h several times)

The rears were done shortly before I bought it, I'm doing the fronts after Christmas and before New Year hopefully.

I've got a problem with the G/Box syncro and the dealer I bought it from is not playing ball, so I've put it all in writing and it might go the legal route. Can't say much on an open forum for obvious reasons, but I'll give you a shout if I have success
