Default Gearbox issues? Or something else.

What is directly underneath the handbrake that could make a sort of grinding knocky noise?
I thought it was gearbox but after driving it today I'm not sure.
All the gears work and engage fine I just get a noise on the over run when still in gear.
It happens in all gears but is easier to replicate in 2nd.
I think I remember a clunk noise when sitting in traffic then had this noise ever since.
I've actually bought a rebuilt gearbox and dropped car off at the mechanic but I'm not certain it is the gearbox now.

Mines more of a whirring but slightly knocky as well.
The quicker I lift of the accelerater the more it does it.
Sort of sounds like a wrc gearbox sound.
All should be revealed in the next couple of days.

If I drive the car nice and slow through the gears it doesn't do it.

It sounds like your gearbox mount. Also check the pitch mount under the IC to see if its worn out.
